If you have a soft spot for Lake Como, this black-tie wedding in Villa Balbiano is all the inspiration you need! Great love affairs start with champagne pronounced Honoré de Balzac, and with this Hong Kong couple, his words couldn’t resonate more.
Their Monaco engagement began with toasts of bubbly at Hôtel de Paris, where we got to sprinkle the Stardust before the two headed to Lake Como for their intimate nuptials at the luxurious Villa Balbiano.
Secreted in one of the largest gardens in Como, the baroque frescoed villa which was once home to Cardinal Durini was soaked in light. Add in the marble floors and rare collections of art and you can probably guess why the 500-year-old estate is so fit for 21st-century aristocrats.
Accents of Carolina blue, azure, and printed menus in cotton fabric set the tone for an incredibly chic imperial table during their rehearsal dinner, where lilies of the valley, fresh white tulips, and sweet peas were paired to garden blooms and fine crystals to evoke Monet garden in Giverny. Duke and Bian’s wedding day was set in pastels, sky blue, light blush, whites and gold for the ceremony and darker shades for the dinner table. Monogrammed gold napkins and blue Florentine charger-plates paired to lush floral arrangements in lieu of runners, and warm candlelight glows created a magical atmosphere.
Enhanced by chandeliers dripping in crystal, glittering gold accents in nearly every room next to bold velvet couches and rococo antiques sourced from around the world created plenty of drama to go around. And if you’re wondering which dress would match this venue to perfection, let’s just say that Bian’s Carolina Herrera gown had even the most haute of the VIP couple’s guests stunned. Is there a better way to catch la dolce vita?
