Villa Del Balbianello
Situated on a peninsula in Lenno, Villa del Balbianello is the most photographed Wedding villas in Lake Como. Its unique and secluded location makes it stand out among Lake Como wedding venues. But the Villa del Balbianello’s ivy-covered loggia leaves visitors in awe.
As your guests approach, they are welcomed by a breathtaking view. For the film fanatics, the view is in the film, Casino Royale.

Note:
Access to Villa del Balbianello is exclusively by boat across Lake Como. This creates a unique and memorable arrival experience for guests. However, the terrain may be challenging for elderly guests, so accessibility should be considered during planning.
Villa Balbiano
Villa Balbiano is situated in Ossuccio on Lake Como, away from the other well-known wedding villas. While the Villa is pretty historic, there has been a recent renovation by Jacques Garcia. This restoration has enhanced its elegance and made it one of the most visually striking venues for a luxury wedding in Lake Como. A private pier allows guests to arrive by boat. The villa combines opulence, heritage, and architectural presence!
Capacity and Layout:
- Indoor: The main villa can host between 100 and 200 guests for a wedding reception. The property includes six suites, additional rooms in the villa’s wings, and a separate villino, allowing approximately 30 guests to stay on-site.
- Ceremony: Ceremonies are typically held in the main front garden overlooking Lake Como. Note: For a unique approach, we have previously staged ceremonies in the back garden, covering the long fountain with mirrors for a dramatic aisle (see this custom setup example).
The wedding ceremony at Villa Balbiano has become one of the most sought-after experiences in Lake Como. Many couples consider it a dream setting and are willing to invest significantly to secure this location. Wedding receptions can be held by the pools or inside the historic salons.
There are indoor options in case of bad weather. We, Eventoile, have successfully executed fully indoor weddings here during rain, utilizing the opulent interiors. See our experience with a rainy 3-day celebration here.
Policy: The villa’s management is very strict and it is important to collaborate with professionals who know the villa and its policy. This heritage needs to be treated with good behaviour both from workers and from guests.

Plan B (Rain): There are indoor options in case of bad weather.
Villa Sola Cabiati

Dating back to the 16th century, the villa preserves its neoclassical character and historic grandeur. Its interiors are filled with heirlooms and artworks, making it a distinctive venue for a refined Lake Como wedding.
The villa is also known for hosting Napoleon and Joséphine Bonaparte during their visit to the Serbelloni family. So, you can sleep on the same bed that they slept on when you visit.

How to Choose the Perfect Villa for Wedding Como Italy
Photos often don’t do venues justice. They don’t show logistics, accommodation, and other characteristics. So you avoid making the wrong choice during your wedding in Lake Como Italy, consider the following factors:
1. Capacity and Flow
Some Lake Como wedding villas have fixed and limited capacity. For example, Villa del Balbianello is a spectacular venue, but it accommodates approximately 70 seated guests for dinner. In addition, the terrain can be challenging for elderly guests.
On the other hand, a larger venue such as Villa Erba may feel disproportionate with a smaller guest count (for example, 50 guests in a space designed for several hundred). When selecting a wedding villa in Lake Como, ensure the scale of the venue aligns with your final guest number and overall event design.
2. Consider Rain When Planning a Wedding in Lake Como
It is imperative that you consider rain when planning a wedding in Lake Como Italy. The rain factor should direct your decision-making. Hence, it is best to have contingencies. Some villas, like Villa Erba or Villa Sola Cabiati, have magnificent indoor halls that make the rain plan just as beautiful as the outdoor plan.
Others rely heavily on tents. If you aren’t a sucker for a tent wedding, choose a villa, like Villa Erba, that can hold your reception indoors. Remember that villas with indoor receptions would cost more than otherwise.
3. Privacy versus Public Access
A key consideration is what villas are open to the public as museums. This feature restricts access, which affects setup times and means you cannot have run of the house all day long. If that’s a deal-breaker, private villas like Pizzo or Balbiano allow for a more relaxed and exclusive timeline.
4. Accommodation
Where would you and your guests sleep? Do you want to sleep in the villa you marry? Villa Balbiano and Villa Sola Cabiate offer suites for the bridal party for a wedding in Como. However, Villa Erba and Balbianello do not have overnight accommodation. So, you have to account for this as it impacts your logistics and the weekend experience you provide your guests.
The Reality of Booking for Lake Como Wedding: Why You Cannot Wait
If you have seen photos of a wedding in Lake Como, Italy, you understand why demand remains high. The appeal of historic villas, lakeside ceremonies, and luxury settings continues to attract couples worldwide. However, the supply of heritage wedding venues in Lake Como is limited.
Today, booking a Lake Como wedding villa one year in advance is standard, and many couples secure their dates 18 months or more ahead. Unlike booking a restaurant, reserving a historic villa requires early commitment. Here is why acting quickly matters:
- Increased Demand: The post-pandemic wedding surge has not slowed down; it has stabilized into consistently high demand for destination weddings in Lake Como. International couples continue to prioritize this location.
- Limited Venues: Alas, 16th-century villas can’t sprout out of thin air. There are only a few of these properties. This means couples often have to move fast; otherwise, the available venues get booked. It is a first come, first serve basis.
- Multi-Day Weddings: Many couples now plan multi-day wedding celebrations, including welcome dinners and post-wedding brunches. This means venues are blocked for multiple days, creating tighter availability calendars throughout the season.
If you have a specific weekend in mind, the earlier you act, the better. Even a short delay can make the difference between hosting your wedding next year or postponing for another season. In many cases, hesitation is the primary reason couples miss the opportunity to book their dream Lake Como historic villa.
